Andrew Strycharski received his Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas at Austin in 2004. His research explores intersections of rhetoric, education, gender, and literature in the early modern period, especially in England. His current book project, The Literacy Affect: Sir Philip Sidney and Early Modern Education, combines historicism, rhetoric and composition studies and psychoanalysis to assess Philip Sidney's affective response to writing and his literacy environment.

Work related to this project, “Literacy, Education, and Affect in Astrophil and Stella” has appeared in Studies in English Literature, 1500 – 1900. Dr. Strycharski has also contributed to the composition textbook Composing Inquiry, from Pearson/Prentice Hall. He has presented research related to his various interests, from composition and rhetoric to Renaissance literature and gender, at numerous national conferences.

His course offerings in composition, literature, and gender studies have included Shakespeare, Milton, Gender and Sexuality in Renaissance Europe, Renaissance Literature, Writing and New Media, and a Webzine Production class.
